The weather cooperates, the flowers are in bloom, and the senior shows up ready to celebrate everything they’ve accomplished. That’s exactly how this session at Green Spring Gardens senior session turned out.
As a Northern Virginia senior photographer, one of my favorite parts of senior year is helping students slow down and take in this exciting season of life. Between college decisions, graduation plans, sports, activities, and everything else that comes with senior year, it’s easy to forget how much these moments deserve to be documented.
For this session, we explored the beautiful gardens, winding pathways, and colorful spring blooms at Green Spring Gardens in Alexandria, Virginia. It was the perfect backdrop for a senior who wanted images that felt natural, timeless, and full of personality.

What I love most about this location is the variety. Within a short walk, we can capture:

During this session, the spring flowers were putting on a show. The pops of purple, yellow, and white blooms added so much color and texture while still keeping the focus where it belongs—on the senior.
Celebrating This Chapter and the Next With a Senior Session
One of my favorite images from this session was the high school pennant portrait featuring a Jefferson High School pennant.
Senior portraits aren’t just about documenting what you look like right now. They’re about telling the story of who you are, where you’ve been, and where you’re headed next.

For this session, we captured both:
- A light, airy spring dress among the flowers
- A more casual outfit featuring her future school’s sweatshirt
The combination created a gallery that felt both polished and personal.
The white dress paired beautifully with the garden setting, while the college sweatshirt added a fun glimpse into what’s next after graduation.
My Approach to Senior Photography
I know that most seniors aren’t professional models.
In fact, almost every senior tells me some version of:
“I’m awkward in front of the camera.”
The good news is that you don’t have to know how to pose.
My job is to guide you through the entire session so you never have to wonder what to do with your hands, where to look, or how to stand. The goal is always to create images that feel genuine and look like the best version of you—not someone else.
By the end of most sessions, seniors tell me they actually had fun.
And honestly, that’s exactly how it should be.
